Interferometric reconstruction for the Auger Engineering Radio ArrayIngolf Jandt and •Julian Rautenberg — Bergische Universität Wuppertal

The Auger Engineering Radio Array is an array of 161 radio antennas for a frequency range of 30 to 80 MHz being setup at the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina. It records broad band radio pulses from Extensive Air Showers caused by cosmic ray particles. The use of interferometric methods can substantially improve the image of the emission pattern with respect to a fit of a specific shower front model. This analysis technology has been implemented into the Auger software-framework. Two different approaches are realized, both using the interferometric cross correlation to estimate the intensity emitted from a certain source position with its time dependence. The first method rasters these points and applies a wave model. It can create 2D and 3D visualisations. The other method optimizes the interference to improve the timing information that reflects the optical path lengths improving the accuracy of existing analysis methods.
