Search for Dark Matter with the AMS-02 detector on the ISS — •Melanie Heil, Wim de Boer, Iris Gebauer, Simon Kunz, Olga Pfeifer, and Valerio Vagelli — Institut für experimentelle Kernphysik, KIT, Germany

The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer is an international project of 56 institutes from 16 countries in close collaboration with NASA to measure the cosmic rays in space. The multipurpose detector AMS-02 measures all the compounds of the cosmic rays up to iron in an energy range from a few MeV to TeV. The seven subsystems of the detector measure all the different particle properties redundantly so that the particle identity can be reconstructed with unprecedented accuracy. With it’s proton rejection in the order of 106, which is achieved by combining the information from the electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) and the transition radiation detector (TRD), also a very high purity of the antiparticle spectra can be obtained, which is of great interest in the search for a WIMP annihilation signal.
