After two successful years of data-taking, the ATLAS experiment at the LHC is now able to conduct searches for physics beyond the Standard Model at energies never explored before. In several proposed extensions of the Standard Model (such as extra dimensions, the little Higgs scenario or technicolour) new heavy gauge bosons emerge, heavy enough to decay into top quark pairs (tt). When massive (M≳ TeV) particles decay into tt, the top quarks can be boosted and the decay products often become merged in the detector. In such a case, the standard top reconstruction algorithms might fail. In this talk, a method for reconstructing boosted top quark pairs in the semi-leptonic channel using jet substructure variables is described. The results from a search for two types of tt resonances, a Kaluza-Klein gluon and a Z boson, using 2 fb−1 of data recorded with the ATLAS detector is shown, where the top quarks have been reconstructed assuming a boosted topology.
