APC is a surgical technique to treat biological tissue by a transient argon plasma discharge at atmospheric-pressure. The APC plasma discharge is mainly used for devitalisation of residual adenoma and coagulation of pathologic tissues during surgical applications.

Today, the effect of the plasma discharge to the degree of tissue damage (like devitalisation, coagulation, desiccation etc.) is not fully clarified.

To overcome this issue, we characterized the plasma discharge applied to biological tissue by microphotography, current-voltage measurements, and microscopy. A combination of microphotography and current-voltage measurements was used to determine the kind of plasma discharge, whereas microscopy was determine the tissue damage generated by the APC plasma discharge.

Additionally, we combined the results of microphotography, current-voltage measurements, and microscopy to assign the effect of an APC plasma discharge on the biological tissue damage.
