CASI Gyroscope Experiment — •Sven Abend, Peter Berg, Gunnar Tackmann, Christian Schubert, Wolfgang Ertmer, and Ernst M. Rasel — Institut für Quantenoptik, Leibniz Universität Hannover

We report on the status of the cold atom gyroscope at Leibniz Universität Hannover which encloses areas as large as 19 mm2 within a baseline of only 13.7 cm. This large enclosed interferometric area at a short baseline is a key feature to build a high resolution sensor while remaining compact and transportable. The sensor currently operates at a sensitivity of 5.3· 10−7 rad/s/√Hz. We discuss the stability of the interferometric contrast and phase. The targeted sensitivity is in the lower 10−8 rad/s regime. This work is supported by the DFG, QUEST, and IQS.
