Inner Tracker Simulation for the ATLAS High-Luminosity Upgrade — •Nicholas Styles — DESY, Hamburg, Deutschland

An upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is foreseen in approximately 10 years time, which will allow significantly higher instantaneous luminosities to be delivered to the experiments, and will be known as the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). The current ATLAS Inner Detector will not be able to operate under the challenging conditions that are expected during this high-luminosity phase and so must be replaced. Simulation studies of a new tracking detector, optimised for performance under high-luminosity conditions, have been performed. The details of this new tracker and its implementation in the ATLAS simulation framework will be discussed. Results of performance studies, based on simulated samples produced under conditions aiming to recreate those expected at the HL-LHC, will be shown.
