VISPA: A novel Blended Learning concept for practice-oriented teaching in physics — •Marcel Rieger, Martin Erdmann, Robert Fischer, Christian Glaser, Dennis Klingebiel, Matthias Komm, Raphael Krause, Daniel Kümpel, Gero Müller, Jan Steggemann, Martin Urban, David Walz, Klaus Weidenhaupt, and Tobias Winchen — Physikalisches Institut 3A, RWTH Aachen University, Germany

The Visual Physics Analysis project (VISPA) is a graphically supportive development environment for modern web browsers and addresses the typical cycle of designing, executing and verifying modular physics analyses. The underlying server-client-approach transfers the advantages of network (and internet) communication upon scientific workflows. Based on central software, data and resource deployment as well as time- and location-independent accessibility, VISPA provides the opportunity of cooperative analysis creation. Therefore, it can be used as a platform for novel blended learning concepts in a wide scope of physical teaching. In this contribution we present the experiences and results of a course-related blended learning project with more than 100 3rd year physics students. We observe that the learning success appreciably benefits from the parallel conveyance of physical concepts within lectures and practical methods of data analyses using VISPA.
