Cosmic Rays at the Highest Energies: Results of the Pierre Auger Observatory — •Radomír Šmída — Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

The Pierre Auger Observatory is the world’s largest detector for cosmic rays at ultra-high energies. More than 1600 water Cherenkov detectors are positioned on an area of 3000 km2 and the array is overlooked by 24 fluorescence telescopes. Updated results will be presented in this talk together with an interpretation of measured data. Recently installed enhancements for the measurement of extensive air showers allow us to study cosmic ray interactions at equivalent center-of-mass energies closer to the beam energy used at the LHC will be discussed. The observatory serves also as a testing facility for new measurement techniques and their first results will be shown.
