CQED experiments rely on the coherent coupling of single or multiple atoms with an optical field inside a resonator. Recently a novel type of fiber-based cavities was presented, where the facet of optical fibers is machined with a CO2-laser and coated with a dielectric to act as concave mirrors [1]. This kind of cavity provides much smaller mode waists (in the order of 5µ m) and thus stronger atomic coupling (g/κ=20) as compared to conventional Fabry-Perot cavities. Here we present our first results on the fabrication and characterization of these cavities using our CO2-laser setup.
