The magnetoelectric coupling is one of the most fascinating and active research areas today. The control of the magnetism due to an applied electric field may lead to new device concepts. First principles calculations of La(1−x)SrxMnO3/BaTiO3(001) interfaces show magnetic reconstructions due to the change of the polarization of BTO by applying an external electric field [1]. The different electron densities influence the equilibrium between super- and double-exchange favoring a ferromagnetic or an antiferromagnetic order at the interface for the two different orientations of the polarization. Here we report on LSMO/BTO, grown with an Oxide Molecular Beam Epitaxy system. The epitaxial layer-by-layer growth was confirmed by in-situ RHEED analysis and the crystalloine quality of the surface was investigated by LEED and Atomic Force Microscopy. The structural characterization was carried out by X-ray reflectometry and X-ray diffraction. The macroscopic magnetic properties were determined by MOKE and SQUID magnetometry.
