We have investigated the magnetization structure and magnetization curves of individual rectangularity shaped permalloy particles using scanning X-ray microscopy in the ultrasoft X-ray regime. Magnetic contrast originates from M-edge X-ray magnetic circular dichroism and from the transverse magnetooptical Kerr effect [1, 2]. We studied magnetization curves in dependence on the field direction for particles of different shapes and sizes. Adjacent particles cause a significant dipole interaction. Asymmetric magnetization loops indicate the presence of non-linear magnetooptical effects. [1] M. Schroeder et al., Nucl. Instrum. Methods Phys. Res., Sect. A, 467-468 (2001) 1404; [2] S.A.
