The efficiency of organic solar cells crucially depends on their active layer morphology and donor:acceptor phase separation. Therefor a more thorough understanding of the impact of varying preparation parameters on morphology changes is important to improve solar cell performance. In this study we combine the two complementary nondestructive scattering techniques of Raman spectroscopy and GIWAXS (grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering) for the investigation of the PCDTBT:PC70BM blend system. GIWAXS provides information about the molecular order whereas the Raman spectra reveal the vibrational modes of the conjugated polymer and fullerene. We discuss our experimental findings for different donor:acceptor blend ratios in view of the high degree of disorder in the polymer PCDTBT and the implications for the morphology-performance relation.
