We report on the extension of transient photocurrent measurements for increasing the characterization range in current and time domain. The challenge is to trace the transient photocurrent over several orders of magnitude. We compare results from using various ohmic resistors with those done via a current amplifier for tracing smaller photocurrents. Here the specific resistor capacitor discharge time is a critical value, which may yield changes in the discharging dynamics. By application of the current amplifier we are able to trace the photocurrent down by several orders of magnitude. However, slight differences in the internal resistor within the current amplifier -present at different amplifier settings- complicate the quantitative analysis of the photocurrent decay. As the presence of deep traps could not by verified, further efforts are to be invested for tracing photocurrent decays over even larger current ranges. Models describing the solar cell discharge are discussed in addition.
