The EURECA Direct Dark Matter Detection Experiment: Overview and Current Activities — •Richard Walker for the EURECA collaboration — Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, Institut für Kernphysik, Postfach 3640, 76021 Karlsruhe

An overview of the EURECA direct dark matter search experiment will be presented. EURECA will consist of up to one tonne of detectors, primarily designed for the EDELWEISS- and CRESST-style bolometers of Ge and CaWO4. The hosting of other types of cryogenic detectors is also possible. The experiment will probe the WIMP-nucleon cross section down to 2·10−11 pb.

The detectors will be cooled to around 15 mK with a dilution refrigerator and operate within a PMT-instrumented water tank acting as both a passive gamma and neutron shield, and as an active muon veto.

In addition to the current status of this most ambitious cryogenic dark matter detector, particular highlights of recent and immediately forthcoming activities involving shielding and detector mounting concepts will be presented.

This work is supported in part by the Helmholtz Alliance for Astroparticle Physics (HAP), and by the German Ministry of Science and Education (BMBF Verbundforschung Astroteilchenphysik 05A11VK2).
