All-optical switching (AOS), first witnessed with GdFeCo [1], attracted growing attention for future data storage devices as well as from the fundamentals point of view. Here we demonstrate that the direction of AOS in rare-earth transition-metal (RE-TM) alloy Tb-Fe thin films depends on the orientation of the sublattice magnetization and not on the direction of the resulting net magnetization[2]. This finding of the sublattice dependence of AOS contributes to the understanding of switching in RE-TM multilayered thin films [3] and heterostructures [4]. [1] C. D. Stanciu et al. Phys. Rev.
