We report on our first results of electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements performed on exemplary iridium-based oxides. These are aimed at understanding the microscopic magnetic properties of these materials which are ultimately arising from a complex interplay of spin-orbital interactions and strong electronic correlations. La11−xSrxIr4O24 allows us to detect single-iridium ion spectroscopic features thanks to the large distance among iridium-oxygen cages. At the same time, the increased inter-ions interactions in Na2IrO3 lead to a clear broadening of the ESR signal. We discuss our preliminary results in a wide range of temperatures and magnetic fields (up to 16 T).
