Observational diagnostics of the dynamics of coronal mass ejections and associated flares — •Astrid M. Veronig — Institute of Physics/ Kanzelhöhe Observatory, University of Graz, Austria

Coronal mass ejections and flares are the most energetic phenomena in our solar system, and are the main drivers for severe disturbances of the space weather near Earth. This talk gives an overview on recent advances on the initiation and dynamics of coronal mass ejections (CMEs), their relation to the energy release in the associated flare, and the interplanetary CME propagation. The studies are mostly based on high-cadence, high-resolution EUV and X-ray imaging and spectroscopy from NASA's SDO, STEREO and RHESSI missions, as well as coronagraph and heliospheric imager data from STEREO.
