The Joint Space Weather Summer Camp — •Daniela Wenzel and Jens Berdermann — Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR)

In the last four years, the German Aerospace Center, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the University of Rostock and the Leibniz-Institute of Atmospheric Physics in Kühlungsborn have offered students in natural sciences the opportunity to take part in the Space Weather Summer Camp.

Twenty students from Germany and the U.S. are selected for this special event. They get an exclusive look into the current activities of the institutions and the work in scientific research dedicated to space weather. Within three weeks, the workshop gives theoretical background and the insight for application oriented experimental projects.

The camp is realized in the USA and in Germany to equal parts. Several excursions, e.g. to the Marshall Space Flight Center and the Historical Technical Museum in Peenemünde are organized next to the lectures and projects.
