Search for the ttH Process Using a Matrix Element Method — •Matteo Mantoani, Arnulf Quadt, Elizaveta Shabalina, Olaf Nackenhorst, and Maria Moreno Llacer — II. Physikalisches Institut, Georg-August-Universtät Göttingen

The ttH (Hbb) channel is a very important and challenging channel to measure the production of the Higgs Boson because its cross section is proportional to the Yukawa couplings of the Higgs Boson to top and bottom quarks and because it is a channel in which the Higgs Boson only couples to quarks. The main background to ttH (Hbb) is the ttbb process. Since it is an irreducible background, sophisticated techniques are required to distinguish the signal from this overwhelming background. One of these techniques is the Matrix Element Method. The method is based on a probabilistic approach in which it is required to calculate the likelihood that an observed event in the detector is consistent with a certain theoretical hypothesis. The hypothesis is defined by using the matrix element of the hard scattering process. The goal of this work is to search of the Higgs Boson in the ttH (Hbb) channel during at Run II at the LHC using events recorded by the ATLAS detector.
