Study of the Higgs Decay Width via Interferometry in the Di-Photon Decay Channel at ATLAS — •Stephanie Yuen, Florian Bernlochner, and Jochen Dingfelder for the ATLAS collaboration — Physikalisches Institut, Nussallee 12, 53115 Bonn

On July 4th, 2012, the ATLAS and CMS collaborations reported an observation of a new resonance in the search for the Higgs boson. One of the most sensitive channels was the Higgs decay to two photons: Although the di-photon channel has a low branching fraction, its excellent mass resolution made it essential to claim the discovery for a new resonance. Besides measuring the overall signal strength, the di-photon channel also can be used to test properties of the newly found boson, such as its decay width. A recent proposal was made to increase the sensitivity of a direct measurement of the new resonance's decay width by exploiting its interference with the continuum in the di-photon channel. Such a measurement can tell us whether the observed decay width aligns with that of the Standard Model Higgs boson and about possible sizeable additional decay channels of the Higgs, e.g. to dark matter candidates. This talk will summarize the current proposed ideas and show a feasibility study for sensitivities for Run 1 and 2 data at ATLAS.
