Impact of the Luminosity Spectrum on Top Mass Measurements at Linear Colliders — •Miroslav Gabriel and Frank Simon — Max Planck Institute for Physics

A threshold scan of e+ett at future linear e+e-colliders enables a highly precise measurement of the top quark mass in theoretically well-defined mass schemes. With a moderate integrated luminosity of 100 fb−1, statistical uncertainties on the order of 20 MeV are achievable, with total uncertainties expected to be smaller than 100 MeV. A potentially critical systematic uncertainty originates from the precision of the knowledge of the luminosity spectrum of the collider, since this spectrum strongly influences the cross section in the threshold region, and with that the mass measurement. For the case of CLIC, which has a substantially more complex luminosity spectrum than ILC, we investigate the precision with which the spectrum can be measured, and the impact of this precision on the top mass measurement. The luminosity spectrum is reconstructed from Bhabha scattering of electrons and positrons, and determined with a fit of a model of the CLIC luminosity spectrum at 350 GeV. The uncertainty of this determination is extracted from simulations of Bhabha scattering with a realistic detector model and full event reconstruction to obtain all relevant detector effects. These uncertainties are combined with a detailed simulation study of a tt threshold scan to obtain the corresponding systematic uncertainty on the top quark mass measurement.
