Quantum Gravity: An Overview — •Abhay Ashtekar — Institute for Gravitation, Penn State

After a brief historical introduction, I will present a broad overview on the problem of unification of General Relativity with Quantum Physics. In particular, I will discuss the conceptual and mathematical issues that arise from unique features of relativistic gravity, and illustrate the strategies adopted in various approaches to address them. Finally to provide a concrete feel for the current status, I will discuss some recent advances in loop quantum gravity. Being a plenary talk, it will be general in its scope and addressed to non-experts.
