We present a joint experimental and theoretical study of the x-ray absorption spectra (XAS) of the hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite methyl ammonium lead triiodide CH3NH3PbI3 - a promising material for photovoltaic energy conversion. The Pb M4,5 and I L2,3 absorption edges of the perovskite were measured in partial fluorescence and total electron yield modes at the HiKE endstation located at the KMC-1 beamline of the BESSY II light source. The corresponding ab-initio calculations are performed using all-electron many-body theory (DFT+BSE), as implemented in the exciting code.
