We present nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on magnetic nanoparticles, most of them synthesized inside carbon nanotubes, with unary, binary and ternary precursor conditions. Our studies on Co, Fe, CoFe, CoGa, Co2FeGa and Mn3O4 nanoparticles show that nuclear magnetic resonance is the method of choice to identify and quantify different chemical compositions, local environments and crystallographic structures of intermetallic magnetic nanoparticle assemblies. Advantages of this method compared to standard characterization methods such as powder X-ray diffraction or TEM-EDX will be discussed.
