The precision measurement of the top-quark pair production cross section in proton-proton collisions is an important goal of the LHC physics program. The measured cross section can be compared to precise theory predictions available to next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy. Precision measurements and theory predictions can be used to determine key standard model quantities such as the top quark mass or the strong coupling constant. Limits on contributions from new physics can also be set. We present results for the top-quark pair production cross section at √s = 13 TeV using data recorded by the CMS detector in 2016. We will specifically focus on systematic uncertainties.
