Recently, it has been reported that during illumination with green light BiFeO3 crystals show three absorption features in the optical spectrum between 1.0 and 2.2 eV [1]. We studied the impact of low temperature, high pressure, and illumination wavelength on this photo-induced effect by using optical spectroscopy. Our findings will be discussed in terms of the photostriction effect observed in BiFeO3 [2].
