We report about the synthesis and 2D supramolecular self-assembly of shape persistent arylene-alkynylene macrocycles at the solid/liquid interface on HOPG. The molecules form complex supramolecular architectures that ar imaged by scanning tunneling microscopy with submolecular resolution. The flexible alkyl/alkoxy side chains interdigitate intermolecularly and stabilize the network formation. The investigation aims at detailed understanding on how the pattern structures and lattice constants depend on the exact shape of the backbones as an effect of the respective corner units and the strain induced by them.
