As most perovskites, SrRuO3 exhibits structural phase transitions associated with rotations of the RuO6 octahedra. From a high temperature cubic phase it becomes tetragonal at 975 K and orthorhombic at 800 K resulting in six possible domains. Furthermore, SrRuO3 orders ferromagnetically at Tc = 160 K with easy axis anisotropy due to spin orbit coupling. Our neutron diffraction and macroscopic measurements unambiguously show that magnetic fields rearrange structural domains, although the ferromagnetic order occurs at six times lower temperature than the structural distortion. For the field along a cubic [110]c direction, a fully detwinned crystal is obtained. Subsequent heating above Tc causes a magnetic shape-memory effect, where the initial structural domains recover, which is similar to Heusler alloys.
