Z→ττ Tag-and-Probe Measurement of the ATLAS Tau Trigger Efficiency — •Serhat Ördek, Michel Janus, and Stanley Lai — II. Physikalisches Institut, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen

The Large Hadron Collider was designed to be operated at instantaneous luminosities of up to 1034 cm−2 s−1, but in 2017, more than twice this value was reached. Therefore, more data than expected can be recorded, but this implies that the trigger system needs to be re-tuned in order to take the increased instantaneous luminosity into account.
Many measurements with the ATLAS detector which have final states with tau leptons rely on a tau trigger system for the online selection. This talk presents the Z→ττ tag-and-probe analysis used to determine the tau trigger efficiency. Events are tagged by requiring the presence of a single muon. Hadronic tau decay candidates are then investigated to see what fraction of them pass the tau trigger. The dependency of the trigger efficiency on the transverse momentum and the pseudorapidity of the probe as well as the average number of interactions per bunch-crossing in the event will be shown. Moreover, the challenges and possible improvements of the method will be discussed.
