astrophYsics Experiments wiTh partIcles - YETI at IAYC 2018 — •Elizabeth Mondragón — International Workshop for Astronomy (IWA e.V.)

The International Astronomical Youth Camp (IAYC) is a three-week long summer camp aiming to promote knowledge of astronomy and astronomy related sciences in a unique international atmosphere (see talk on IAYC). Every year the IAYC takes place somewhere in Europe. About 70 people from a wide range of different countries live together for three weeks. Participants are between 16 and 24 years old and share a common interest: Astronomy. The camp offers several working groups covering different topics from astrophotography, observation and astro-particle physics to astronautics and astrobiology. During the IAYC 2018, in the context of the working group YETI (astrophYsics Experiments wiTh partIcles) participants built a CosmicWatch© muon particle detector and made several studies on the muon flux at different altitudes and atmospheric conditions. In the context of this project, participants also developed a mathematical model to study the expected flux of muons for different altitudes and latitudes. Moreover, they could also unravel the arduino code used in this detector and learned the basics of arduino coding. All these different project developed in the YETI working group and its results will be presented in the poster. Furthermore, new information about the IAYC 2019 working groups will be given.
