Semi-classical treatment of chaotic systems — •Sebastian Rosmej — Carl-von-Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg

Up to today chaos is a fascinating but complicated topic in physics. So dealing with quantum chaos is extremely difficult but already the classical treatment of chaotic systems is non-trivial. A helpful bridge between classical and quantum chaos might be the semi-classical approach.

Using time-dependent semi-classical methods simple models are considered where regular and chaotic motion are possible. One example is the periodically driven anharmonic oscillator. A currently investigation of this periodically driven anharmonic oscillator is the derivation of probability distributions for work in the quantum case which is of fundamental interest in physics. An important step in this challenge is the semi-classical treatment of such systems.
