Stark deceleration of molecules from a cryogenic buffer gas source — •Yanning Yin, Parul Aggarwal, Kevin Esajas, Hendrick Bethlem, and Steven Hoekstra — for the NL-eEDM collaboration (Van Swinderen Institute for particle physics and gravity, University of Groningen, National institute for (astro)particle physics Nikhef, and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands)

We are developing slow, cold and intense beams of heavy molecules to enhance the sensitivity of our NL-eEDM experiment, which is aimed at probing the electron's electric dipole moment (EDM). To do so, we combine the intense beam created by a cryogenic buffer gas beam source, which typically has a velocity of 180-200 m/s, with a traveling-wave Stark decelerator. The decelerator reduces the velocity of a part of the molecular beam to around 30 m/s. The slow beam allows for an increased interaction time, increasing the statistical sensitivity of the electron-EDM measurement. We present first results obtained with SrF molecules, for which we have used this combination of techniques. We will discuss the potential of this approach to push the frontiers of table-top particle physics experiments.
