Theory of non-integer high-harmonic generation in a topological surface state — •Maximilian Graml1, Maximilian Nitsch1,2, Adrian Seith1, Ferdinand Evers1, and Jan Wilhelm11Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of Regensburg — 2NanoLund and Solid State Physics, Lund University, Sweden

High-harmonic emission from a topological insulator has been observed recently [1] opening a platform to explore topology and relativistic quantum physics using strong laser fields. Strikingly, the higher order resonance frequencies can be continously shifted to non-integer multiples of the driving frequency by varying the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) of the driving field. Based on a semiclassical model we explain this finding as a characteristic property of the Dirac dispersion. We complement analytical results with numerical simulations based on the semiconductor Bloch equations.[2]
