Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are layered materials that can be thinned down to monolayers. The optical properties of these flakes depend strongly on the cleanliness of the surfaces. Transferring TMDCs with PDMS is simple to perform and allows the fabrication of large monolayers [1]. The objective of this work was to improve the methodology so that sample quality is enhanced without reducing the yield or increasing the effort required for production. For this purpose, a statistic of 20 monolayers was set up, which were half transferred to a SiO2 substrate at ambient conditions and half transferred in a glovebox [2]. All samples were characterised by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy at room temperature and ∼4 K. By examining the exciton and trion features in the spectra, it could be shown that only the small difference in the transfer process results in changes of the optical properties that can be attributed to a higher sample quality of the samples produced in the glovebox.
