Scalable 2D material based LEDs have been the subject of many recent works. Tungsten disulfide (WS2) emerges as a potential active material in such LEDs, based on its direct band gap, high stability and strong photoluminescence. Copper oxide (Cu2O) on the other hand, a p-type semiconductor, can function as the electron-transport layer. This study investigates the interaction between WS2 and Cu2O within the framework of the LED. Different characterization techniques, including (low-temperature) PL, Raman spectroscopy for optoelectronic interaction and various electrical transport measurements are employed to map out the benefits and limitations of using Cu2O in the WS2 based LED.
