Quantum Sensing: From Lab to Market — •Fleming Bruckmaier1,5, Dominik Bucher2,5, and Christopher Trummer3,4,51QuantumDiamonds GmbH — 2Technische Universität München — 3TUM Venture Labs — 4Munich Quantum Valley — 5Laureate of the Technology Transfer Award 2026

The Munich-based startup QuantumDiamonds, the TUM School of Natural Sciences (TUM NAT) at the Technical University of Munich, and the Munich Quantum Valley (MQV) have been jointly awarded the Technology Transfer Prize of the German Physical Society for their pioneering development of innovative quantum sensors for failure analysis and metrology in the semiconductor industry. QuantumDiamonds advanced quantum magnetometry enables the detection of extremely small magnetic fields and currents, providing unprecedented resolution for fault identification and localization in integrated circuits. This breakthrough originating from the laboratory of Prof. Dominik Bucher at TUM NAT and accelerated by the TUM Venture Lab Quantum/Semicon within the MQV ecosystem, demonstrates the successful transfer of cutting-edge quantum technology from research to industrial application. Within only three years, QuantumDiamonds has grown from an academic idea into a company capable of characterizing next-generation chip architectures with unmatched precision and speed.

In our award lecture, we will share the story of how the company emerged from an academic environment, highlight QuantumDiamonds growth and success, and acknowledge the crucial support provided by the MQV.
