Cosmic structure formation in the nonlinear regime: beyond Gaussian statistics and standard cosmologies — •Alex Gough — Newcastle University

The cosmic large scale structure - a weblike network of dark matter and galaxies spanning billions of light years - acts as an attractive probe of fundamental physics and cosmology, especially in the era of stage-IV cosmological surveys. In this talk I will present the key challenges associated with understanding the late time matter distribution as well as connections to probing new fundamental physics.

In particular I will showcase how we can efficiently characterise and use the statistics of the late time matter distribution even in cosmological models with modified gravity, evolving dark energy, or wavelike dark matter. I will also demonstrate certain universal interference features which are produced by wavelike dark matter and their connection to the complex multistreaming of classical cold dark matter, which provides a new tool for modelling both cold and wave dark matter semi-analytically on the largest scales.

Keywords: cosmology; dark matter; structure formation; large scale structure
