The decay of the Higgs boson into a pair of Z bosons, which subsequently decay to four leptons (H → ZZ* → 4ℓ), provides a clean signature and high signal-to-background ratio for studying the properties of the Higgs boson. This allows for precise differential fiducial cross-section measurements of this decay channel.
The measurement is performed using 165 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data at √s = 13.6 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector between 2022 and 2024. This data set, for the first time, surpasses the size of the full Run 2 sample, enabling further improvement in measurement precision. The analysis minimises model dependence by employing fiducial phase-space selections that closely match the experimental acceptance, together with corrections for detector effects. The results will be compared to Standard Model predictions, with emphasis on key differential observables.
