ESR investigations of diamond irradiated with 335 MeV Ni ions have demonstrated that the singlet line of dominant radiation paramagnetic centres has a super-Lorentz shape because of relatively high intensity of the wings as compared with those of the Lorentz-shape line. Using a specially designed software ESR spectra corresponding to each removed layer have been obtained. Depth distribution profiles of the dominant paramagnetic centre concentration have been also studied. Peculiarities of the defect production in the irradiated diamond are discussed in terms of a model of low-dimensional structures consisting of parts of the ion tracks assuming the origin of the dominant paramagnetic centres as mobile quasi-particles.
