The effect of diamond heat spreaders on the efficiency of a cooling system for laser diodes (copper heat sink with water channels) is studied with a 2-D numerical simulation. The presence of a thin diamond film in between the laser diode (the heat source) and the heat sink can significantly reduce the temperature of the diode, the critical parameter for its operation. It is known also that the thermal conductivity of polycrystalline CVD diamond films depends strongly on the grain size and 13C isotope concentration, the controllable parameters during the CVD growing process. Variations of the diamond film properties on the maximum temperature of the laser arrays are studied.
