Au films, from the submonolayer range up to 14 monolayers, have been deposited in situ on Ag crystals at 300K. Their geometrical structure has been investigated by full hemispherical X-ray photoelectron diffraction. Structural models developed on the basis of these data has been tested by means of single-scattering cluster calculations. For both systems our results present clear evidence for an ordered alloy formation and we determine how deep Au atoms interdiffuse. Au grows bulk-like on top of this ordered alloy interface. Information on the Fermi surface of this samples has been obtained by angular mapping of the HeI excited photo- electrons at the Fermi level.
