NO adsorption on Pt(111) studied by high resolution x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy — •Junfa Zhu, Martin Kinne, Thomas Fuhrmann, Reinhard Denecke, and Hans-Peter Steinrück — Physikalische Chemie II, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Egerlandstraße, D-91058 Erlangen

The adsorption and subsequent desorption of NO on the Pt(111) surface has been studied using high-resolution x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and temperature-programmed XPS. With the use of synchrotron radiation and supersonic molecular beam techniques, in-situ observations of the adsorption and desorption processes of NO have been performed. They clearly show that NO is adsorbed molecularly on the surface at 100 K. Depending on the NO coverage and surface temperature, the evolution of NO adsorbed on the different sites has been observed by O 1s and N 1s core level spectra. The results are discussed and compared with previous reports, which were investigated by other surface techniques. (Gefördert durch die DFG, Projekt Ste620/4-1)
