Thiophene-based polymers and oligomers have been proposed as a viable alternative to more traditional field effect transistors based on inorganic materials such as silica. Good soluble 4’,3””-dihexyl-2,2’;5’,2”;5”,2”’;5”’,2””; 5””,2””’-sexithiophene (DH6T) with regular structure have been synthesized and fully characterized. Thin film produced from DH6T have been studied by means of UV-vis spectroscopy, scanning electron and atomic force microscopy. Observed fine structure and strong bathochromic shift about 100 nm in UV-vis spectra comparably with UV-spectra in solution reflect an efficient intermolecular conjugation and strong intremolecular interactions between aromatic rings. SEM and AFM investigations confirm dense and ordered mode of molecular packing of T6 units during solvent evaporation. Preliminary measurements show field effect mobility of DH6T film about 10-4 cm2 V-1 s-1.
