We performed confocal Raman microscopy on dye-sensitized solid-state organic solar cells based on an organic hole transport layer and TiO2. To identify characteristic Raman lines and assign them to vibrations of the different constituents, we investigated also cells in which only part of the materials were present. In the spectrum we could detect the Raman signal of the Ruthenium dye adsorbed on the TiO2 nanoparticles, although the laser wavelength used for excitation (λ = 632.8 nm) is far from the absorption peak of the dye. We ascribe this observation to enhancement of the Raman signal and concomitant fluorescence quenching due to SERS. The spectrum shows also peaks which indicate the formation of new chemical bonds between the constituents. When the laser was focused on the evaporated gold electrodes, enhancement of some Raman lines due to SERS was observed.
