Aperiodic Noise-Free Stochastic Resonance in Electronic Circuits — •Tilman Aßmus, Thomas Stemler, and Hartmut Benner — Institut für Festkörperphysik, TU Darmstadt

In nonlinear electronic oscillators of the Chua type the merging of two precritical sub-attractors leads to a crises induced chaos-chaos intermittency. Close to such a crisis weak periodic signals can be enhanced via the mechanism of noise-free stochastic resonance. In our present investigation we focus on a similar enhancement of aperiodic signals. As an extremly aperiodic signal, we simply used noise of limited bandwith (20-70 Hz), while the conventional role of noise is taken on by the fast intrinsic chaotic dynamics of the oscillator. The jump probability in the intermittency regime is varied via a tunable resistor R in the electronic circuit. By analyzing the cross-correlation between the aperiodic input signal and the system response as a function of R we obtain a distinct maximum, which is shifted towards higher R values for increasing input signal amplitude. After rescaling the noise axis in terms of the average dwell time on a sub-attractor, our data show universal behaviour and are in good agreement with recent numerical simulations.
