Leading off-diagonal approximation for the spectral form factor of chaotic systems — •Marko Turek and Klaus Richter — Institut für theoretische Physik, Universität Regensburg, D-93040 Regensburg

We show how correlations in the action of classical paths determine the spectral statistics of hyperbolic chaotic systems in two dimensions. We present a phase space generalization of a recent approach [1,2] which was based on configuration space arguments for a uniformly hyperbolic system. In particular we derive the leading off-diagonal correction to the spectral form factor K(τ) in the semiclassical limit.
