Spin filter effects in mesoscopic ring structures — •Diego Frustaglia1, Markus Popp2, and Klaus Richter31Institut für Theoretische Festkörperphysik,Universität Karlsruhe, 76135 Karlsruhe — 2Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik, 85748 Garching — 3Institut für Theoretische Physik, Universität Regensburg, 93040 Regensburg

We study the spin-dependent conductance of ballistic mesoscopic rings in the presence of orientationally inhomogeneous magnetic fields. For the proposed set up we show that even a small Zeeman splitting can lead to a spin polarization of the current up to 45%. Making use of the spin-switch effect [1] we propose an integrated device consisting of two rings connected in series which, in principle, is able to both create and coherently control spin-polarized currents at low temperatures [2].
