We produce nano-clusters of ZnO, CdO, and CuxO by a self-organizing diblock copolymer approach. The solved diblock copolymers form micelles, which are loaded with metal salts, i.e. ZnCl2, CdCl2, and CuCl2. By dipping a substrate into the solution, a monolayer of ordered micelles is created on the surface of the substrate [1]. A subsequent O-plasma process removes the polymers and oxidizes the metal ions. Finally, ordered clusters of ZnO, CdO and CuxO are created on the surface. These clusters have diameters of about 10nm, and are 100nm apart from each other.

The nano-particles are investigated by atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy.

To improve their optical quality, the clusters are annealed at high temperatures. Furthermore we passivate the clusters by an additional silica layer.
