Manganese induced magnetic interface states in the c(2×2) phases of Mn/Cu(001) and Mn/Au(001) — •Frederik Schiller1, Samed V. Halilov2, and Clemens Laubschat11Institut für Oberflächenphysik und Mikrostrukturphysik, TU Dresden — 2Center for Computational Materials Science, Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC 20375 and DMSE, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA 19104, USA

The electronic structures and the Fermi surfaces of the c(2×2) surface compounds of Mn deposited on Cu(001) and Au(001) are compared on the basis of angle-resolved photoemission data. The different structure [1] is also reflected in the magnetic and electronic properties of the system. While Mn atoms on Cu(001) were found in a high-spin ground state, observed Mn 3p core-level shifts indicate different behaviour on Au(001). In the electronic structure of both compounds new Mn-induced states close to the Mc(2×2)-point of the surface Brillouin zone are observed that are interpreted as exchange-split interface states.
