Magnetization Dynamics of Ferromagnetic thin films — •Andreas Neudert, Jeffrey McCord, Rudolf Schäfer, and Ludwig Schultz — Leibniz-Institut für Festkörper- und Werkstoffforschung Dresden, Helmholtzstr. 20, 01069 Dresden

The high frequency response of magnetic thin film samples is measured with a pulsed inductive microwave magnetometer (PIMM [1]). A voltage pulse with a rise time of 100 ps is transmitted through a coplanar waveguide. The magnetic films are placed face down on top of the waveguide so that the magnetic field produced by the current is oriented in the film plane and perpendicular to the anisotropy axis. The rotation of the magnetization induces a voltage in the waveguide, which is detected by a sampling oscilloscope. The samples are extended amorphous CoZrTa films with a thickness ranging from 40 nm up to 500 nm. We measured the ferromagnetic resonance frequency and the damping of the magnetization oscillation. The experimental data is compared to calculations with the Landau-Lifschitz-Gilbert equation and the frequency dependence on the dc bias field is fitted to the Kittel equation. Differences between experiments and simulations will be discussed.
